Emails and telephone records in Mayor Rob Ford’s office are in danger of disappearing, the Star has learned.
The electronic records, which may reveal knowledge of discussions of the video scandal, were ordered destroyed this week. Sources say people who were told to delete the records are balking at the order.
One source the Star spoke to was alarmed at the potential loss of “evidence of attempts” to locate and retrieve a video of Ford smoking crack cocaine and making homophobic and racial slurs.
The records in question were held on the City Hall server and belonged to departed staff members Mark Towhey, George Christopolous and Isaac Ransom. Towhey was fired for telling the Mayor to seek addiction help; the other two resigned Monday after their communications advice was ignored.

But this bold editorial declaration by the Toronto Star stands out: “If the Prime Minister can’t bring himself to address the Senate scandal in a meaningful way, that role must devolve to Parliament, its ethics officers, Senate auditors and the RCMP.”

New York news blog Gawker yesterday revealed the existence of a video showing Toronto Mayor Rob Ford smoking crack cocaine. The video was taken within the last six months, allegedly by the city’s Somali drug dealers.
Gawker editor John Cook reported that he received a tip from a source in possession of the video, and recently flew to Toronto to review it.
Rob Ford, Toronto’s conservative mayor, is a wild lunatic given to making bizarre racist pronouncements and randomly slapping refrigerator magnets on cars. One reason for this is that he smokes crack cocaine. I know this because I watched him do it, on a videotape. He was fucking hiiiiigh. It’s for sale if you’ve got six figures.
It began like this: We’ve made fun of Ford before for his bizarre pronouncements and nude pictures. Last week, we got a tip from someone claiming to have a videotape of Ford smoking crack. Would we like to buy it?
The scandalous video is being shopped around. Gawker wants to purchase and publish it. The site has launched a fundraising appeal on crowdfunding site Indiegogo. As of early evening Friday, their appeal, Rob Ford Crackstarter, had raised $34,600.
