EDMONTON – The President of the Alberta Division of the Canadian Union of Public Employees has pledged her support for ‘Common Causes’ a network of progressive activists looking for a change in direction on Aboriginal, environmental and democratic issues in Canada.
Rachel Maddow is my favorite American television host, political commentator and progressive. She’s the best. In this video, she unloads on Republicans and conservatives for their delusional reaction to the re-election of Barack Obama as the president of the United States. And she opens her smackdown in style:
Ohio really did go to President Obama last night. And he really did win. And he really was born in Hawaii. And he really is legitimately President of the United States.
Maddow concludes by advising the Republicans to “pop the factual bubble they have been so happy living inside, if they do not want to get shellacked again.” For the rest, watch:
In Canada we hardly confront racism perpetuated by political figures. As a consequence, Prime Minister Stephen Harper‘s government and Conservative MPs are having a field day practicing racism and creating resentment towards minority groups dominated by persons of color.
Conservative MP Kellly Block
Earlier this year, Harper’s immigrant-bashing minister of Immigration and Multiculturalism, Jason Kenney, introduced draconian cuts to health benefits for refugees, including coverage for pre-natal care. The majority of refugee seekers are persons of color, trauma survivors and other vulnerable people.
