Established refugees now face loss of status after the Conservatives’ draconian changes to immigration laws, a new report by the Canadian Council of Refugees says.
Rights groups say “an independent and effective complaints and monitoring mechanism for the Canada Border Services Agency” is necessary due to abuses of the human rights of refugee claimants and vulnerable Canadians.
Harvard Medical School and Hunter College School of Public Health researchers find immigrants generated surplus contributions of $115.2 billion in 2002-2009, $13.8 billion in 2009, and actually subsidize the health care of native-born Americans. The study concludes that reducing immigration would worsen Medicare’s financial health.
