by Obert Madondo@Obiemad | The Canadian Progressive, June 6, 2012:

After 85 days on a hunger strike against Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s new “Safe Streets and Communities Act” (crime Bill C10), it’s with great pleasure, gratitude and emotion that I announce the end of the protest. I’ll end the protest at 11.59pm today. I made the decision to end the peaceful protest after my final push for a response from Harper in the last two weeks, and my meeting with NDP MP and justice critic, Francoise Boivin (with me in the pic), on Parliament Hill this afternoon.

I just got back from the doctor’s office and was told that I’ll be back on my feet within two weeks. My health is my immediate priority. I’ll focus on recovering the 34kg (74.8lbs) I lost during the protest, and on bumping up my Vitamin D levels from the current critical-low of 20 to the normal of 76+.

The hunger protest was one hell of a life-changing journey through the soul of my beloved adopted country! There are no words to express how grateful I’m for your support, solidarity, advice and criticism. I couldn’t have done it without you.

Today, May 21st is the day 69 of my indefinite hunger strike protesting Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s cruel new crime law, the deceptively christened “Safe Streets and Communities Act”, formerly omnibus crime Bill C10. This potentially-fatal act of peaceful civil disobedience is an informed reaction to Harper’s burgeoning elected dictatorship. It is a natural reaction hewn out of conscience and personal lived experience.

Below is my appeal to newly-appointed Conservative senator and former Ottawa Police chief, Vernon White, to resign. I mailed the letter to the senator on March 14, 2012. On the same day, I started an indefinite hunger strike against the Conservative government’s cruel new crime law, the deceptively christened “Safe Streets and Communities Act” (Bill C10).

Why the senator’s resignation is the second most important of my hunger strike demands…

Obert Madondo’s Canada Crime Bill C-10 Hunger Strike: Day 44 Update

this photo1 Obert Madondo’s Canada Crime Bill C 10 Hunger Strike: Day 44 UpdateThis journal entry covers days 41, 42, 43 and 44 (April 23, 24, 25 and 26) of my indefinite hunger strike against Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Conservatives’ draconian new crime law, the deceptively christened “Safe Streets and Communities Act” (Bill C-10).  Before I started the peaceful protest on March 14, I prepared my body through a feast-and-famine practice regimen that started in mid-January. Through plenty of water, regular glasses of orange juice and a fortified soy drink, and measured doses of sugar and salt, my body has been able to slow down muscular atrophy (the wasting or loss of muscle tissue).

But now my health has deteriorated significantly.
