Neither the bitter Canadian winter nor the holiday season are slowing down Chief Theresa Spence and the phenomenal Idle No More movement. Flash mobs and other peaceful protest actions are either under way or planned for the near future, including the ongoing blockade of a CN Rail line in Sarnia, Ontario. Chief Spence, who begins the third week of her hunger strike today, joined Twitter on Sunday morning. She already has 6,400 followers. Her Twitter handle is @ChiefTheresa.

PowerShift 2012 March in Ottawa
The PowerShift 2012 Conference concluded with a raucous “Trick or Treat” march through downtown Ottawa by over 800 conference attendees and local activists. The 4-day conference sought to push the Harper Government to act to stop climate change and social injustice in Canada. And to stop annual handouts of $1.4 billion in Canadian taxpayer money to the “richest, dirtiest corporations in the world.”
The conference kicked off last Friday with electric speeches by young keynote activist speakers before 1000 attendees at the Canadian Museum of Civilization in Gatineau. MCs Brigette DePape and Clayton Thomas-Mueller set the tone for the rest of the 4-day conference when they invited the participants to rousing chants of: Power Shift! Stop Harper!

Hundreds of people, including members of parliament, rights activists and average citizens, are expected on Parliament Hill at noon tomorrow to protest the unfolding Robo-calls election scandal. Renowned activist Brigette Depape (pictured) and MPs Pat Martin (NDP, Winnipeg Centre) and Elizabeth May (Green Party Leader, Saanich-Gulf Islands), are expected to speak at the event.
The scandal emerged ten days ago after Postmedia News and the Ottawa Citizen reported that scores of Canadians had received questionable automated calls during the May 2011 federal election.
The demonstrators are expected to demand an independent public inquiry. And possible nullification of the results in at least 65 affected ridings across Canada. Elections Canada has so far receiced more than 31,000 complaints.
