The CBC News reports that a lone protester interrupted a speech by Prime Minister Stephen Harper as he addressed an international conference on the French language
in Quebec City today. The protester “began shouting and approaching the stage” before he was “grabbed by two security guards and hustled out of the room through a side door.”
The protester’s words:
“Stop Harper
stop Jean Charest
Citizens rise up.
We need you,
everybody.”

A few strange things:
- The CBC News and the National Post says the men who tackled the protester were “security guards”. To the Vancouver Sun and others, they are “security personnel.” Enough already! The men were more than that. More like Harper’s bodyguards to me. They wore suits, and the kind of earpieces common with the secret service and other close protection agencies.
- The protester has no name. He gave no interview to the press after his courageous act. None of the corporate media outlets that carried the story – CBC News, National Post, Vancouver Sun, etc – interviewed him. Or maybe he disappeared off the face of the earth before they could get hold of him?
- The interruption received “muffled applause from some of the attendees.” Really?
