Another visit to the doctor today, which is day #66 of my indefinite hunger strike protesting Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s cruel new crime law, the deceptively christened “Safe Streets and Communities Act”, formerly omnibus crime Bill C-10.

The tests done just over two weeks ago revealed that my Vitamin D levels have deteriorated to a critical level. A level the doctor said he’s never witnessed before.

Recently, the Journal of the American Medical Association highlighted the “worldwide, chronic and silent epidemic of vitamin D deficiency among Black people that triggers many health complications.” The deficiency is blamed for higher rates of diseases such as hypertension, heart disease and diabetes.

The doctor recommended that I take 5000 units of vitamin D a day for the next three months.

The doctor also said he’s gravely concerned about my continuing weight loss. I’ve lost more than 35lb since I started the hunger strike on March 14.

I also reported the severe chest pains I’ve been experiencing for over a week now. The doctor ordered new tests.

The visit took less than an hour. Previous visits: 3 to 4 hours.
