At 12:01am on Wednesday, March 14, I started an indefinite hunger strike against the Conservative Government’s new Safe Streets and Communities Act (crime Bill C-10). My five demands include the immediate repeal of the Act and resignation of Senator Vernon White.

Through this law, our over-compensated and tyrannical petro-prime minister, Stephen Harper, seeks to impose on Canada an insidious, war-loving, pro-punishment, anti-science, poverty-ignoring and anti-minority right-wing worldview.

The Act will expand state power, weaken the judiciary, divide society, take away Canadians’ rights and freedoms, create resentment of the “other”, and punish the weak and marginalized. It will obliterate these Canadian values: compassion, multiculturalism, inclusion, diversity, fairness, democratic governance, respect for fundamental rights and the rule of law, and accommodation of difference. I’ll continue the hunger strike until the Act is repealed in its entirety, and the other four demands are met.

Dear Obert, I'd like to talk with you about strategy. You'll find my blog on this subject at http://creativeinterchange.blogspot.com. Dr. Irvin Waller says we have made great progress in the war of public opinion and there is hope yet for preventive measures to happen if not killing C-10 while Harper is in power.

Rev. Frances Deverell, thank you so much for your kind words, and for the link to your blog. I just read the latest posting and deeply appreciate the fundamental and enlightening questions you asked. I'll be reading more of your postings on Bill C-10, and hope to educate myself some more as I continue on this journey. Determined as I'm to find the meaning of the shock-and-awe changes being prescribed for my adopted and beloved country, I have lost sight of the fact that search should be responsible. I look forward to more of your inspiring insights. Incidentally, a friends who stopped by to see me today gave me your business card. Again, thank you.

dear dear obert, i don't know much about your story, but my gut tells me you may be facing an enemy who is willing to let you die. if you've fasted before and you know when your human limits are set to expire, then it may be wise to consider whether your opponents even "care" if you live or die. maybe you are less of a threat to them if you do die. again, i am not familiar with your cause, though i intuit it as pure. therefore, i wish you strength and perseverance and the wherewithal to make difficult choices in the future.
