Vancouver-based anti-consumerism magazine, Adbusters, instigated the movement. In the summer the magazine proposed a September 17 “occupation” of Wall Street.

Canadian activist, Naomi Klein, was once a leader of Adbusters.

According to the Financial Post, Canada was a key online instigator of the movement even before the occupation of Wall Street. By my count, more than 30 Canadian cities now hold “occupy” protests and other activities.

Canada’s role in starting the Occupy movement speaks to Canadians half-tapped potential for inspiring mass movements for the common good. For global leadership.
