Ontario Votes 2011: McGuinty’s Prescription For A Cancer Called “Canadian Experience”
Foreign-trained immigrants with professional credentials face higher unemployment rates than non-immigrants with the same level of education. It’s a fact. And the result? Toronto and other major cities that attract new immigrants are wastelands of under-used immigrant talent.
The “Canadian experience” cancer afflicts Canadian employers.
A Canadian holidaying in Mumbai would visit an Indian hospital and consult an Indian doctor. The same doctor arrives in Canada and presents their Indian credentials to a Canadian employer and they’re told that they’re unqualified. Makes no sense to me.
It’s time for Canadian employers to accept that we’re in the 21st century. Time to change attitudes and drop this xenophobic “Canadian experience” nonsense.
