Apparently, the man who wants to be Ontario’s next premier signed a petition seeking to end abortion funding. But Ontario Progressive Conservative Leader Tim Hudak only admits that he ”may have” signed the damn thing. “May have” is not is not good enough. It’s patronizing political doublespeak. Not good enough an answer to a critical, human rights issue.
If Hudak didn’t sign the petition, he’d just tell us: I did NOT sign the petion!
And then Hudak promises not to reopen the debate if elected premier. Tell us something we don’t know. The debate cannot be easily re-opened. That’s because abortion can’t be banned in Canada. Not as long as we’ve an independent legal system. Not as long as Canada is still a compassionate country that upholds a woman’s right to chose.
But we’re talking about Ontario here. Currently, women needing abortion procedures are covered under Ontario Health Insurance (OHIP). That’s the way it should be for the next… for eternity! A woman’s right to her body and her life is sacred.
In fact, considering all the pain and suffering maled-induced violence has visited upon women over millenia, we should push the boundaries even further. Every woman’s right should be declared a human right.
